Today I had an ultrasound and doctor appointment to check out Baby 'Zarah'. The ultrasound nurse was able to see that all the vital components are there and growing nicely. Unfortunately, Baby wasn't cooperative so she wasn't able to get good pictures of the heart chambers, liver and umbilical cord vessels, so we'll go back in December for another ultrasound. And no, we are not going to find out the sex of the baby, so don't bother badgering me (it wasn't possible today anyway).
Baby's heartbeat is in the middle of the normal range at just over 140 beats/min, and all my vitals look great--as if I wasn't even pregnant. Today was the start of week 23, so we are definitely over half-way done. Ultrasound shows that Baby Z's growth is measuring on target, and is just over 1 lb. The baby is very active right now with plenty of room to tumble and kick. Brain, spine, stomach, kidneys, bladder, appendages are all developed, and the facial features show no signs of abnormalities. Amazing what they can see on ultrasound.
