Today we had a stress test/ultrasound to make sure the baby is still doing okay since the baby is a week overdue. Sarah was hooked up to a monitor for fetal heartbeat and uterine contractions and told to hit a trigger button every time she felt the baby move. There were only 2 sets of movements in 20 minutes, so it was a pretty boring test. Baby's resting heart rate is right around 137-140 beats per minute, jumping to 150-160 when moving.
The ultrasound followed, with pictures of the baby's face posted on our site. Details are hard to see in ultrasounds when babies are this big. The ultrasound tech assured us that everything looked normal and healthy. Baby was sleeping for most of the exam and had to be woken up with a noise device so we could capture the proper number of head/body movements. We got to watch Baby practice breathing, saw the heart beating, and checked out a foot/leg all scrunched up and hiding it's privates. The belly measurements indicate the baby is around 7lbs, 4oz., but the tech said the equipment frequently underestimates weight at this age. She guessed the baby is closer to 8 lbs or so.
