Wow. It's October again. Where did the time go....
We have been busy with 2 active boys. Zachary is 4 1/2, turning 5 in November. He started spending his afternoons in 1/2 day preschool where he is learning a lot. Today I found out he can count to 40...well, 38, 39, thirty-ten! The other night he showed us the sign for 'A', 'apple' and 'tree', so he's learning some signlanguage too. He also talked us into letting him take a computer class on Tuesdays, where they've been learning about clicking and dragging. He seems to enjoy his gymnastics, and even choir at church. He also likes his little brother.
Gabe will be 7 months this coming week. He is on the verge of crawling and pulling himself up to stand. I find that when I put him down on the floor, just a few minutes later he's scooted himself to a whole new place. We've been working on getting him to sleep better at night, since he is still waking up every 2-3 hours. Tough on us parents! Gabe just loves his big brother and laughs at everything Zach does. I love catching them playing cars together.
Ryan and I are busy at work too. He's been writing proposals plus working his projects. I've been facilitating more problem prevention meetings, especially for our California site. Our spare time is taken by our boys (of course) and church meetings. We purchased season tickets to the ISU football games again this year, but are only attending about half so we don't feel as crazy as last year. We have tried to do a few fun things as a family. Last Saturday we went to the Minneapolis Fall-Con (a comic book convention) where we met our favorite comic strip author (Michael Jantze--The Norm--see our link on home page) and got his autograph. Then we went to my company for an open house/cultural festival. The kids and Ryan got to see all the latest Seagate products, tour our R&D manufacturing areas, learn about my co-workers home countries, and see my cubicle!
We are finalizing our plans for the kitchen remodel. We hope to be able to remove a large portion of the wall between our kitchen and dining room to open the space up more. We are pretty sure on the cabinet layout, but still discussing flooring and countertop materials. Ryan has been thinking of tiling the floor (and we found some we both like), but I'm intrigued with using cork (engineered cork flooring) for the look and comfort factor. Countertops are still up in the air until we figure out costs and colors on the other things. We are hoping to get the cabinets ordered by Nov 1 so the kitchen can start after Christmas.
That's it for now. Hopefully Ryan will post pictures soon!
