Week Two Starts - Tuesday, January 23, 2007

Week two started off with the electricians returning to finish the work begun last week. Today they installed many of the outlet boxes and switches throughout the kitchen. The remaining items are the pendant light boxes, the light over the sink, and the light over the desk. They actually installed the light over the desk but it is in the wrong place. Tomorrow morning I'll break the news to them that they need to move it. The cable TV and phone lines also need to be run.

In addition to the electrical work in the kitchen, the electricians also replaced our old fuse box with a new breaker box. This is a huge improvement since the whole house was basically running on four fuses (and the electrician commented that one fuse fed 3/4 of the house). Sarah and I were getting tired of making late night runs to the hardware store to purchase fuses.

I don't know if I mentioned it earlier, but Sarah and I decided on the floor that we're going to install in the kitchen and dining room. We're going with a cork floor made by Wicanders. The floor is a floating floor made out of cork. The cork is soft so it absorbs sounds and is easy on the legs. Dropped dishes are less likely to break. The color is a "Tea" color, but it is a nice medium to dark brown.

Today Sarah and I purchase our pendant and chandelier lights for the kitchen and dining room. The pendant lights have many colors that will be present in our kitchen. Plus they look nice! The dining room chandelier will replace the ceiling fan/light that is currently hanging over our dinner table.

Tomorrow the electricians should finish up!
